Slickers are used to finish the edges or flesh side of leather projects through a process called burnishing. It smoothens raw edges and surfaces and is usually used in tandem with a burnishing agent that one applies before using the slicker to rub against the raw leather edges or backside. Some slickers, such as a block slicker and a glass burnisher, are specifically designed to burnish the flesh or suede side of the leather.
